Humble Beginnings
Nicolas learned a lot from his early days in Central London, working on large retail buildings and developments. The first building he developed himself was a barn in Bedfordshire, after the planners went bankrupt and abandoned the project. Nicolas took on the job himself, confident in his ability to do a great job of the project. This project taught him about the practicalities of building and was the golden experience that created the business.
Nicolas officially set up Tye Architects in 2002, taking on small projects like loft conversions. They were small projects but Nicolas took pride in every one until clients began to recognise his potential as a professional. They began to trust him and his small team with even larger projects.

This radiant modern home is one of Tye’s latest developments and built to seamlessly blend in with the landscape, showcasing Tye’s expert planning skills when it comes to ecology and topography. This five-bedroom masterpiece was built using modern techniques with the intention of minimising impact on the environment and with focuses on sustainability.
It might be white in colour but it’s a green house through and through!
During the building process, Tye had the challenge of coping with the impact of COVID 19 and had to do most of the work in the lockdown. Nonetheless, the team at Tye Architects were resilient and were still able to bring this wonderful design to life in just two years - and this included the additional works of a tennis court! The clients were more than pleased and are now the proud owners of one of the most stylish (and sustainable!) homes in the area.

Silones Farm, Leicestershire
This modern farm project showcases the versatility of Tye Architects when it comes to rural architecture. They decided to start with a blank canvas, demolishing a dilapidated building from the site. They then got to work on planning a design that would embrace the beautiful countryside landscape and rich history of the area. Hence the incorporation of the U-shaped footprint, inspired by historical farm layouts.
This was yet another design where Tye Architects applied their dedication to environmental sustainability with rammed earth walls and reclaimed red brick.
