International Meditation Centre
Commercial Architects, Well-Being Architectural Projects
The centre is set in a three-acre site near to the boundary between Hertfordshire and Essex with specimen mature trees throughout the plot and significant vegetation to the boundaries.
The introduction of the building relates to the protection of the trees within the plot. It is a single storey structure due to it being in Greenbelt land and needing to be sensitive to the site and surroundings.
The intention is for the building to be an open all-religion and faith acceptance meditation centre which specifically looks to provide a common tranquil solution connecting through internal space to the plot and landscape beyond. The building is intended to be Passivhaus level of sustainability and maintain a cool and consistent temperature throughout the seasons.
The external landscaping includes a series of meditative calm ponds to encourage wildlife but also to provide interest when meditating externally to the building or walking around the surroundings to the structure.
