Eastlands
One-Off Houses
The site is located in the northeast section of Hertfordshire in a small rural village which has a number of significant individual plots. The original dwelling was a dilapidated and derelict 1940s lightweight timber frame structure which unfortunately couldn’t be recovered, reused, extended or modified so we had to opt for looking at a new build solution.
With significant views both to the rear and on the approach to the site at first floor level we designed a T-shaped plan form which had the main living spaces enjoying a wide panoramic view to the rear and the primary bedroom looking to the long reaching views at the entrance point. The secondary bedrooms had views across the natural sedum roofs looking out towards the west.
The building was designed on the principles of Passivhaus with high levels of sustainability in terms of air quality, air tightness, insulative fabric and high levels of sustainable power.
