Aspley Guise House - Bedfordshire

Contemporary Hillside Residence

Positioned within a mature woodland landscape, the proposal for this contemporary residence is defined by its terraced form, expansive glazing, and restrained material palette. The design follows the natural topography of the site, stepping across the hillside to create a series of interconnected indoor and outdoor spaces while maximizing privacy and long-range views.

Horizontal roof planes and textured stone walls establish a strong architectural identity, balanced by generous glazed openings that frame the surrounding landscape and introduce daylight deep into the interior. Large terraces extend the primary living spaces outward, creating sheltered areas for gathering, relaxation, and year-round outdoor use.

The proposal is distinguished by its integration with the terrain, allowing the building to sit naturally within the landscape rather than dominate it. A combination of natural stone, dark cladding, and carefully considered lighting reinforces the home’s contemporary character while enhancing its presence after sunset.
